Genes2Me Launches RT PCR-based Monkeypox Testing Kit, Claims Turn-around Time of Less than 50 Minutes

Monkeypox outbreak is shaking the world, and World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Public Health Emergency of International Concern. India has reported 4 cases of Monkeypox cases as of 26th July. Thanks to Genes2Me company, we now have a rapid test kit for testing the Monkeypox virus in India. Genes2Me Pvt. Ltd., a New Delhi-based NABL accredited lab, has become the first Indian lab to develop an indigenous testing kit for Monkeypox.

Genes2Me Pvt. Ltd. announced on Tuesday that the testing kit can detect Monkeypox with an turn around time of less than 50minutes. The lab says its testing kit can work with regular RT PCR devices as well as Point-of-Care format on Genes2Me Rapi-Q HT Rapid RT-PCR device. The Point-of-Care instruments can be used at places such as airports, hospitals, diagnostic labs, etc.

“Scientists from Genes2Me have been able to develop “POX-Q Multiplexed RT-PCR kit” for the detection of Monkeypox virus along with differentiation from Varicella Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) in a single tube multiplex reaction format. First of its kind ‘Made in India’ product, this kit is available as Research-Use only (RUO) and based on Gold standard Taqman chemistry based RT PCR method,” it stated.
